UC Davis Medical CenterCitrus Heights, CASleep Health EducatorThe Clinical Sleep Health Educator works under direct supervision of the Carm Sleep Clinic Leadership and the Sleep Program Medical Director to provide comprehensive education, with regard to evaluation, and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea diagnostic testing, therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, treatment compliance management, assessment of sleep health outcomes and assists in identifying and supporting possible barriers to care. The clinical sleep health educator is credentialed in sleep technology or other allied health professions that have appropriate training in sleep-related patient management and is able to interact with physicians and other health care providers in a professional manner. Will also set up/disconnect Home Sleep Studies at the Carmichael Sleep Clinic.Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a registered Polysomnographic Technologist. Must maintain current RPSG.T. certification
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Allied health professional with appropriate training and competence in patient education and sleep medicine or international equivalents, including post-secondary education or certification.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in sleep technology and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technologist and clinical sleep health educator.
- Expert and comprehensive knowledge of medical field, health promotion and / or related education programs.
- Expert skills associated with development and delivery of complex health education programs.
- Expert skills associated with identifying organizational needs, program development and implementation.
- Competency with Practice Parameters and Clinical Guidelines for sleep medicine health care:
- Understand sleep architecture and identify factors contributing to normal sleep variances related to aging, gender and medication.
- Maintain current BLS certification for healthcare workers or international equivalent.

Department OverviewThe Carmichael Sleep Clinic is part of the UCDMC Sleep Disorders Center, an American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited facility. The Sleep Clinic and Lab are managed by the Neurodiagnostic Services Director in collaboration with the Medical Director.The Clinical Sleep Health Educator has wide-ranging experience where professional concepts and campus objectives are used to develop sleep health promotion and education programs that have campus-wide or community impact. Develops and implements broad new or revised programs. Makes decisions regarding programs that are significant in nature. Internal and external contacts often pertain to campus plans and objectives. Is considered a subject matter expert on campus and often recognized as an expert externally in the industry.Department Specific Job ScopeProvide patient education for sleep disorders, comorbidities, therapeutic equipment and processes, therapy options, sleep hygiene, and self-help. Empower patients, families, and caregivers to assume as much responsibility for their care as possible. This position will work closely with the Sleep Providers at the Sleep Clinic and work collaboratively with the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator to help manage DME compliance.POSITION INFORMATION
