Prisma Health, South Carolina’s largest notforprofit healthcare system seeks a collaborative, distinguished and experienced leader to serve as the Chair, Department of Pediatrics - Midlands for Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine, in Columbia. The Chair also serves as the Sr. Medical Director of our free-standing children`s hospital providing physician leadership over its services and quality.
The Chair will lead by creating a unifying vision for the advancement and growth of clinical services and regional expansion of care delivery, strengthening educational programs, and fostering research within a nationally recognized health system and medical school.
Position Overview
The Chair provides strategic and operational oversight of all divisions within the Department of Pediatrics, guiding the advancement of clinical services, education, and research. This role is responsible for setting the departmental vision, driving operational and financial performance, and fostering faculty success while advancing high-quality, patient-centered pediatric care.
Working closely with Division Chiefs, administrative partners, and School of Medicine leadership, the Chair will strengthen clinical programs, support regional growth and access, and foster collaboration across the health system and community to enhance the delivery of pediatric care.
Key Responsibilities
Provides strategic and clinical leadership to advance high-quality, patient-centered pediatric care across the region
Drives departmental growth and recruitment, expanding access to care and strengthening specialty services
Leads innovation in clinical care, advancing standards, outcomes, and adoption of new technologies and treatments
Oversees financial performance, ensuring responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability of the department
Builds strong partnerships with referring providers, health systems, and community stakeholders to enhance regional impact
Fosters a culture of excellence, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and professional satisfaction
Champions academic mission, supporting education, faculty development, and growth of research and scholarly activity
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a respected and inspiring leader with:
M.D. or DO from an accredited institution with board certification in Pediatrics.
Eligibility for appointment at the Associate or Professor level at the University of South Carolina Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine
Demonstrates success in academic medicine, clinical leadership, and faculty development
Strong communication skills and the ability to lead effectively within a complex, matrixed healthcare system
Evidence of serving as a Child advocate
A passion for innovation, education, mentorship, and patientcentered care
